When working with research data, you need to know how it is classified according to AAU’s data classification model. The classification helps you understand how the data should be protected, stored, accessed and shared, and which systems and platforms you are allowed to use.

Remember that the classification may change during your research project, for example if you combine datasets or add new types of information.

At AAU, you have access to various digital tools and computing platforms that can support the collection, processing and analysis of your research data. When choosing a tool or platform, make sure it is approved for the classification of data you will be working with.

At AAU, it is mandatory to create a Data Management Plan (DMP) for your research project. Your DMP is a living document and should be kept up to date throughout your research so that it continues to reflect how your research data is handled.

You should review your DMP when significant changes occur. This may, for example, include changes to the types of data you collect or generate, how data is documented or organised, where data is stored or processed, who has access to it, or how data will be shared, published, archived or preserved.

It is also a good idea to review your DMP at key points in your research, for example when new data is collected, when your research enters a new phase, or before data is shared, published or preserved.

At AAU, it is mandatory to register your publications in VBN through Pure. Registration should take place on an ongoing basis as outputs are produced or accepted. To meet Open Access requirements, you are required to upload an Accepted Author Manuscript if the final published version is not openly available. To increase the visibility of your research and present the full range of your work, you are encouraged to register all relevant activities, including projects, collaborations, conferences, and other contributions.

Remember to register your time if you work on a project that requires time registration. You must register the productive hours you spend on the project. Time registration is used for grant-financed, revenue-funded and AAU-financed projects, as well as projects financed through a combination of these.

Your registered hours, together with the calculated hourly rate, form the basis for assigning wage costs to the project.
